Connecting to chat: Other options
4londe created a guide to help people still having trouble getting into our chatroom
We know a lot of people have had trouble connecting to the chat room this year, and the counselors want to apologize for all the inconvenience it has caused. However, we have learned that those who are connecting to the IRC server from outside clients seem to be having more success. In response, we have created this guide to connecting from outside of the webpage.
Option 1: Mibbit
Mibbit is also web-based, but some have stated they have had more success with it. At the very least, it is a viable backup. Also it is relatively easy to connect to. So there’s that.
First, go to Mibbit’s Chat Client.

Go to the middle box where it says Connect. Select Rizon [webirc] from the drop down box. Below it, enter your preferred nickname beside where it says Nick. Beside where it says Channel, enter your preferred channel (i.e. #ch2k12bonfire). If you wish to enter multiple channels at once, separate them with a comma (#ch2k12bonfire,#ch2k12lostwoods). Finally, click the button that says Connect.
Option 2: Pidgin
If you have not already, download Pidgin.

Once it’s installed and opened (guide to installing here), hit Ctrl and A to open up a box that says Accounts. Below it, choose the option that says Add.

A box titled Add Account should appear. Stay on the Basic tab, and click the box to the right of where it says Protocol. Select IRC from the drop down box. Once again, put your preferred nickname in the Username section and put irc.cyberdynesystems.net in the Server section. Afterward, click Add.

Pidgin should now automatically connect you to our server.
Option 3: mIRC
mIRC can be downloaded for free here. For basic instructions on how to use it, go to Getting started with mIRC.

Now, once you’ve got down the basics, you’ll want to open mIRC. What should happen is that a box will pop up titled mIRC Options. On the left side of that box should be a list named Category. Within that list, click Servers. On the right side, another list should pop up, this one named IRC Servers. To the right of that should be a column of buttons. Click the one that says Add.

A new box should have come up, one named Add Server. It contains a series of spaces to fill in. Next to Description, just put in a name that you’ll remember. Camp Hyrule 2k12, something along those lines. Below that it should say IRC Server. Here’s where you should paste irc.cyberdynesystems.net, exactly like that. Leave everything else blank, then click Add at the bottom of the box.

Once the box has closed, select the name you just entered (possibly Camp Hyrule 2k12) from the list of IRC Servers in the mIRC Options box. It will likely be at the bottom. Now select Connect, the first option on the list on the left named Category. Put in your nickname and any other information you want. Finally, click Connect down below and you should be connected with us.
Do let us know if you are still having trouble or have found another option that works better.
